Leave home. Develop a high-demand skill. Stay in school.

In the 90's my Dad practically called me a traitor for leaving town to seek my fortune in DC instead of taking a job cleaning pools. In the early 2000's people made fun of me for keeping my government job and going to grad school instead of quitting to double my income at a dot-com. In the late 2000's the dot-commers lost their jobs and complained that I made too much money. Now in the 2010s the unemployed yell at me while I wait for the bus, because they define their economic situation as unjust. Conclusion: Leave home. Develop a high-demand skill. Stay in school.
