BasilWhite.com: Happy oatmeal cookie accident

Made oatmeal cookie recipe as per Alton Brown's cookbook "I'm Just Here For More Food"... except that I forgot the oats. Nine minutes later I open the oven to rotate the baking pans and find two pans of sugary butter napalm. I pour the oats into the mixing bowl, mix them in with the napalm and bake again.

Best cookies I've ever made.

Accidentally toasting the sugar and butter gave the cookies a rich, almondy tone like biscotti. I may do it again on purpose and put the butter and sugar in a Pyrex pitcher in the preheating oven while I prep the rest of the ingredients.

Should I be concerned you forgot to add oatmeal to oatmeal biscuits??

The new recipe is so crazy it almost makes sense.

Here's how I almost made oatmeal cookies without oats.

I blended the oats and baking soda in the food processor and mixed the wet stuff separately in the mixer as per Alton's instructions ("The Muffin Method," I think).

The food processor is smaller and was visually obscured by the big beautiful mixer my honeybunny gave me, and that which I do not see does not exist in my mind.

Hug a microattentive today.
