Re: June 9, Wendy Leibman
Penn: Regarding your June 9 broadcast with Wendy Liebman. I'm responding a month later because I listen on Podcast. I listen on Podcast because the show airs in DC on God-damn 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
Wendy talked about dressing down her sexuality for standup comedy so that people would focus on her message instead of her appearance. I'm a standup comic in D.C. and I featured a few times for Tanya Lee Davis, a funny lady who happens to be a midget, AKA "little person." During Tanya Lee's entire act, she has to keep going back to "little people" gags to admit and recognize that people keep getting distracted by her size so they can move on with her to other material.
I told her, "It must be tough having to keep going back to the midget stuff so the audience will get over what you look like and go where you want them to go."
She told me, "Basil, as hard as it is for me to do my job because I'm a little person, it's even harder for me to do my job because I'm a woman."
That's when I stopped complaining about being fat.
Three bucks of fun,
