Faculty Dinner at The Writer's Center

Went to the annual faculty dinner at the Writer's Center, a freestyle creative writing school in Bethesda, MD. Instructors include C.M. Mayo and Chris Abraham. I'm the comic-in-residence.

I talked the boss into letting me host the 3-minute speed workshop sessions at the noon-3pm open house Jan. 13, an event, which, yes, I invented. All kindsa professors get to give 3-minute versions of their writing workshop. Should be a boost for my comedy writing workshop the following week.

I can't believe I get paid to teach people to write dirty jokes. Life's good.

Sounds like a blast to me. You should be able to tell your life story and recite the IIiad and Odyssey in 3 minutes or less, just lose the ADD meds for the day! :-)~

I'm a hyperactive man-child from Memphis.

Iliad: Achilles fights the Trojans and doesn't get the slave he was promised so he goes away from the war mad. Then this Trojan Hector kills his war buddy so Achiles goes back and kills Hector and defiles his body so the Trojan king has to buy Hector's corpse so all the corpse-defiling can end.

Odyssey: Odysseus is gone for 20 years fighting the Trojans so guys keep hitting on his wife assuming he's dead. Odysseus shows up and kills them all.

Very good. Is War And Peace next? I've always wanted to read that one ~ not! You will need to liven up the first section about yourself though; I don't think you captured the character completely. Work on it.

A buncha rich Russian Czarist families see the revolution writing on the wall and are powerless to stop it. One of them frees his servants but that doesn't help much. Everybody dies.

Very cheerful story, no wonder I haven't read it yet.

Pass the BBQ please...
