No harm, no foul: The Catholic Church just isn’t that into me any more

There’s a comedy booker several DC comics used early in their careers. He was better than nothing early in our comedy journey, but he didn’t pay well and he’d yell and give unclear or inconsistent instructions.

Occasionally he’d fire one of us. A few of us accepted the firing as a sign of professional advancement; that we had evolved beyond our capacity to maintain a working relationship with this guy. We couldn’t make nice with him anymore, because the things we were doing to explore and grow, he would condemn as unprofessional.

That’s how I feel about the Catholic church.

I was Catholic once, but I gave it up along with all religions. As I see it, religions keep people from growing in understanding of the world and human nature. After giving up on religion and becoming very skeptical, I was amazed at how much better I felt about myself. No more having to believe weird stuff, no more interest in a religion that harms people, no more delusion about human nature.

As a friend of mine said, "I was Southern Baptist once, but I feel better now."
